Joia Jefferson Nuri, PCC, is an ICF-certified Executive Leadership Coach and founder of In The Public Eye Coaching, a practice dedicated to helping women in leadership silence the inner critic and step fully into their power.
Before becoming a coach, Joia built an extraordinary career in broadcast journalism and public service. She made history as the first Black woman to serve as Technical Director of the CBS Evening News and Face the Nation—two of the most visible and high-pressure news programs in the country. She also served as a Senior Producer at NPR, PBS, and C-SPAN, working behind the scenes where leadership, precision, and decision-making under scrutiny were essential.
In addition to her media career, Joia has contributed to global human rights initiatives alongside Harry Belafonte and Danny Glover, experiences that profoundly shaped her understanding of leadership, moral courage, and the responsibility that comes with influence and visibility.
Today, Joia brings this depth of experience into her coaching work. She partners with high-achieving women who are known for their competence but are ready to be recognized for their leadership presence, vision, and authority. Her signature approach supports leaders in moving from their zone of excellence to their zone of genius, strengthening executive presence, and navigating complex professional environments with confidence and self-trust.
Joia’s coaching blends mindset and identity transformation with practical leadership strategy. Clients learn how to speak with conviction, set boundaries without guilt, stop over-performing, and lead from a grounded, self-assured place. With a style that is both compassionate and challenging, Joia empowers leaders to take up space, lead strategically, and build careers that reflect who they truly are—not just what they can do.
